Training for pharmacy technicians? Gain the knowledge of medicines


Medicines are a necessary part of our life especially during a medical treatment. However, to get better and healthy, it is also necessary that we take proper medication on right time. Nevertheless, how can we decide which drug is right? How much dose should we take? Or How many times we should take our tablets? To answer all above mentioned question, there is a professional in healthcare industry, pharmacy technician.
Pharmacy technicians are the healthcare experts who are trained for providing proper medicines in enough amounts to patients. They work in drug stores or chemist shops of healthcare centers etc. It is a blooming profession, in which, the demand of trained experts has increased in recent years. For building a career in this profession, there are requirements like education, training and certification that should be completed.
To enter this field, one must at least get their high school diploma or its equivalent. After completing school education, one needs to get enrolled in a pharmacy assistant course. In this course, one can learn about:
  • In training, students can learn about various drugs and how they should be used for specific disease. Knowledge of drugs is important, if someone wants to work as a pharmacy technician.
  • Students will also be taught how to prepare medicines according to prescription. They will also learn how to understand prescription or how to label bottles etc. They will also learn how to manage medicines kept in store or inventory and use them before they expire.
  • One of the tasks of pharmacy assistant is to assist registered pharmacist. This is important for students to learn, how they can provide proper assistance to pharmacist.
  • On work, it will be responsibility of pharmacy technician to manage accounts. In training, students will be taught how to manage accounts, receive payments etc.
  • Since in chemist shop, all work is done on computers, it becomes necessary for students to learn about computers and medical softwares. Without this knowledge, it will be impossible for them to work properly on their job.
  • In training, students will also learn to manage front desk, manage calls and handle customers etc. For this task, they will need good communication skills too.
After completing training, one can prepare for state’s certification exam. However, in many states like New York, there is no certification exam or license required. Trainees can work under a pharmacist after completing their course. One just needs the necessary training and skills to get a job.
